ITN Sweeps The Board At Rts Television Journalism Awards
Newsrooms at ITN are today celebrating success following their outstanding win of seven Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards, beating both Sky News and the BBC, at a ceremony held in London last night. The Awards recognise the extraordinary work that journalists at ITV News and Channel Four News have produced over the last year.
ITN's flagship news programmes for ITV won four awards including the prestigious Best News Programme Award, for the third year running. The judges praised the way it 'communicated directly and successfully with a mass audience, and combined high production values with strong news values.'
Matt Williams, 26, from ITV News's Northern bureau was named as Young Journalist of the Year. ITV News's political team picked up the Scoop of the Year Award, a new Award this year, for revealing former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy's treatment for alcoholism and the coveted Home News Award was presented for Selly Oak - A Soldier's Story which followed the treatment in NHS hospitals of injured service men and women upon their return from active service in Iraq, part of a week long series of programmes entitled Betrayed?.
ITN's news and current affairs programme for Channel 4, Channel 4 News, won three awards for Best Response to a News Event for coverage of the Lebanon War, Specialist Journalism of the Year for their week of reports News from Iran and the coveted prize of Presenter of the Year went to Jon Snow. Jon Snow paid tribute to all the team at Channel 4 News for their hard work, passion, energy and commitment.
