Those who are interested in the work experience programme for ITV News, Channel 4 News and Channel 5 News will work alongside experienced news specialists and have the opportunity to learn what it takes to produce a high quality news programme.

Applicants for the work experience programme for ITN Productions will work with experienced producers and learn the techniques used to make long and short form news programmes.

Junior Camera Operator - ITV News

ITV News has an exciting new opportunity for a Junior Camera Operator. As a Junior Camera Operator, you will be responsible for shooting video of a high technical and creative standard. In time, you will also be editing news pictures to broadcast quality standard.

Key tasks will include operating a camera and associated equipment as well as performing the functions of a sound recordist. You will be expected to use lighting equipment effectively, reliably and creatively to an exceptional technical level. As part of your role, you will undertake the direction of live outside broadcasts and support the journalist by researching and fixing stories.
 

Working under your own initiative will be important as well as being flexible and willing to travel to any location on behalf of ITN. You will have work experience from a relevant media environment and good knowledge of the ITV News style and agenda. Desirable attributes include working knowledge of AVID technology as well as a constructive approach to problem solving.

Deputy News Editor - ITV News

Do you want to be a future ITV News Editor working at home and abroad? This could be the job for you. ITV News has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy News Editor to be part of their team.

Reporting into the Head of Home News, you will be responsible for driving and shaping the News Agenda for ITV News programmes across all platforms, both in the planning and on-the-day newsgathering process. You will be expected to identify and pursue stories for future coverage when on planning and to act up as News Editor when required. As part of the role, you will brief and deploy Reporters, Correspondents and Producers to cover important stories. You will manage both the compilation of stories and the contacts relating to individual stories. You will also oversee a variety of special projects.

Key attributes for this role include the ability to prioritise tasks and stories. Excellent communication skills, journalistic judgement and research skills are also essential. You will have a packed contacts book and understand the elements needed to make up distinctive ITV News packages.

IT Broadcast Engineer

ITN’s Technology team is looking for an experienced Broadcast IT Engineer to join the team responsible for the strategy, design and implementation of streaming solutions, broadcast networks and other ICT infrastructure. Excellent knowledge of IP networks, hardware including switches, routers and firewalls is required. Experience with streaming video and other file-based video formats is preferred, in addition to the management of contribution video streams, and delivery of content to end-users via various streaming platforms.

The IT network infrastructure underpins the whole business from core corporate services including email and internet access to the Avid systems and broadcast equipment that delivers our programme output. Ensuring its stability and performance is critical to the business and, as we continue to move into a more IP dominated world, the importance of the underlying networks and technology that delivers the connectivity is ever increasing.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent knowledge of IP, preferably CCNA or equivalent, and have a good understanding of network hardware and topologies including switches routers and firewalls and connection options such as copper and fibre.

Whilst mainly office based, there will be requirements to work offsite and/or outside of business hours, at short notice on deployment projects and for larger special events, as the news agenda dictates.

As Digital Editor you will be at the heart of our newsroom delivering distinctive, hard hitting news journalism for Channel 4.

We are looking for an innovative and experienced digital journalist to lead our online team, creating content for our digital platforms to reach the widest audience possible.

The successful candidate will manage a specialist team active in digital engagement across social media. You will also devise and deliver interactive and audience-based formats for the television and multi-platform news.

News Assistant

An opportunity has arisen at ITN for a position in the Studios department as a News Assistant working across all ITV News bulletins.

The role of a News Assistant is threefold; you will ensure the smooth running of floor operations as the Floor Manager, acting as link to the gallery crew and Presenter(s). You will be responsible for keeping the studio tidy and safe for those who work there and guests who visit. You will also operate the autoscript prompt system for presenters, updating scripts as required. Away from Studio operations you are responsible for music logging across all ITV national bulletins.

You must be able to remain calm in all situations, be clear thinking and concise when communicating with others, work well in a team or solo and be of a flexible nature.

Operations and Finance Manager – Channel 4 News

Channel 4 News has the exciting opportunity for an Operations and Finance Manager to join our award winning newsroom. Reporting into the Editor for Channel 4 News, you will oversee all financial, resource and operational management areas for the Channel 4 News department. You will be expected to lead the drive for operational innovation and efficiencies as well as liaise and report to Channel 4 on contract/budget issues on a monthly and quarterly basis. The Operations and Finance Manager also has line and day-to-day management responsibility for the camera crews, linking them to the wider newsroom.

Key tasks will include but will not be limited to; managing the Channel 4 News budgets as well as scrutinising and reporting expenditures whilst adhering to contractual obligations. In addition, you will report to the Director of Operations on policy related matters, cross-newsroom projects and major coverage planned events. You will also control costs and identify operational and financial savings to be discussed with Channel 4 in accordance with contractual requirements.

You will be a strategic commercial and operations manager with gravitas ideally acquired working in management within the media or a similar sector. You will be required to have an in depth understanding of TV production as well as the financial modelling that comes with programme making. Experience of HR processes, policies and management of HR procedures is desirable. An excellent eye for detail coupled with strong communication skills will be key, as will be the ability to show resilience in communicating budgetary limitations whilst also showing flexibility and a creative approach to problem solving. You will have the proven ability to lead, develop and motivate your colleagues. Importantly, you will be expected to possess the confidence and ability to represent Channel 4 News and ITN at a senior level.

Executive Assistant, 6 month FTC (Maternity Cover)

ITN are seeking an experienced Executive Assistant, to support the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Business Affairs and Company Secretary. You must have a solid corporate/legal secretarial background, and have experience of working a board level.

The role will involve managing executive management’s calendars (including meetings, travelling, catering) and all administration, including reviewing mail and receiving calls. You will also be required to amend and format lengthy legal documents using track changes, type correspondence and documents from audio tapes or handwritten notes, and completing research projects when required.

In this role you will also be responsible for the accurate and regular maintenance and implementation of filing and office systems, both electronic and hard copy. You will monitor team sickness and absence via Open Options, and coordinate any facilities requirements, such as moves and maintenance.

Trainee Sound Mixer

An opportunity has arisen at ITN for the post of a Trainee Sound Mixer. The successful applicant will be given 6 months training to enable them to become part of the ITN Studios Sound Team. When training is complete they will be responsible for balancing the audio output across ITV News and Channel 4 News to the highest broadcast standards.

Ideally you should be a postgraduate or have a degree in Sound or Broadcast engineering with the ability to balance sound and to demonstrate an understanding of audio systems signal flow. An understanding of current industry standards for Sound and the ability to demonstrate the use of IFBs and 4-wires on programmes plus an understanding of microphone placement techniques would be an advantage.

There will be a practical sound-mixing test to determine who the winning candidate should be.

Editor – new digital news venture from ITN
