Scheduled Placements

The next two week placement is scheduled for Spring 2014 and can take place in ITV News, Channel 4 News, Channel 5 News or ITN Productions. It is open to anyone in the UK over the age of 18.

Those who are interested in the work experience programme for ITV News, Channel 4 News and Channel 5 News will work alongside experienced news specialists and have the opportunity to learn what it takes to produce a high quality news programme.

Applicants for the work experience programme for ITN Productions will work with experienced producers and learn the techniques used to make long and short form news programmes.

This is a challenging role with a rare opportunity to direct our home and foreign operations from the heart of our newsroom - the ITV network news desk. Reporting to the Heads of Home and Foreign News, this role requires travel with our news teams as well as helping to lead our planning for UK news coverage. You will work alongside our award-winning correspondents and camera operators as you commission and pursue stories, manage projects and produce coverage.

Proven national news desk experience is essential, along with excellent communication, people management and decision making skills. You must have real passion and hunger to be the first to the major stories.

UK Editor - ITV News

ITV News has an exciting and rare opening for a talented UK Editor to join its award winning team. Reporting into the Director of Newsgathering, you will lead the coverage of home affairs in the ITV UK Bureau on stories covering a number of subjects including; law and order, crime, anti-terrorism, immigration and many more. Working closely with the Head of Home News, the News desk and the Planning team you will drive UK Bureau stories to deliver distinctive exclusive content.

You will possess the ability to provide expertly scripted and well crafted packages across a broad range of areas on breaking news, diary stories and original journalism. You will add high quality analysis and context to all pertinent stories. Importantly, you will be expected to build and maintain high profile contacts and use these to break news. In addition, you will be required to lead and develop relationships with external bodies such as; relevant government departments, agencies, police forces etc. You will also provide written, picture and video content for ITVNews.com and know how to effectively use social media.

You will be someone with a real passion for chasing and developing all relevant stories. You will have an extensive proven history of breaking original news and utilising social media and online to drive stories. Excellent packaging skills and impeccable on-air delivery across a range of issues are key to this role, as is the ability to lead people. You will be equipped with an awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making.

News Editor, UK Bureau - ITV News

ITV News has an exciting opening for a News Editor to join its award winning team. Reporting into the Head of Home News, you will drive the newsgathering in the ITV News UK Bureau, leading a team of Reporters and Producers covering areas such as home and social affairs, crime, terrorism and immigration. The role will require you to identify UK Bureau stories and know how to best deliver exclusive creative content.

You will be responsible for commissioning and pursuing stories as well as delegating and prioritising resources effectively. An important part of your role will involve building and maintaining contacts across the brief. You will also be expected to find and develop third party contributors such as stringers and freelancers.

You will have strong decision making and leadership skills along with a proven background in UK Bureau stories. Strong field news experience is desirable as is a demonstrable history of delivering stories for web and on social media.

Operations & Finance Manager - ITV News

ITV News has an exciting new opportunity for an Operations and Finance Manager. Reporting into the Editor for ITV News and the Director of Operations for ITN, you will oversee all operational, resource and financial management areas for the ITV News department. You will be expected to lead the drive for operational innovation and efficiencies as well as liaise and report to ITV on contract/budget issues on a regular basis.

Key tasks will include but will not be limited to: managing the ITV News budgets as well as scrutinising and reporting expenditures whilst adhering to contractual obligations. In addition, you will report to the Director of Operations on company policy related matters, cross-newsroom projects and major coverage planned events. You will work closely with the ITV News HR Business Partner and Managing Editor to oversee and control the recruitment process, ensuring the necessary staffing needs are met and remain within budget.

You will be a strategic commercial and operations manager with gravitas ideally acquired working in management within the media. You will be required to have an in depth understanding of television production as well as the financial modelling that comes with programme making, and possibly news assignments. Experience of HR processes, policies and management of HR procedures is desirable. An excellent eye for detail coupled with strong communication skills will be key. You will have the proven ability to work in a team and motivate your colleagues. Importantly, you will be expected to possess the confidence and ability to represent ITV News and ITN at a senior level.

Business Producer - ITV News

ITV News has an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic Business Producer to be part of its award winning team. Can you help us break stories across the business brief and turn them into compelling television news?

Reporting into the Head of Home News and working directly with the Business Editor, you will be responsible for driving and championing UK and international business issues on a daily basis, identifying stories and trends whilst delivering exclusive and distinctive content. Importantly, you will be capable of translating complex business stories into watchable television.

Key tasks will include newsgathering and creating excellent quality packages and live reports as well as working on location to find the best angles for ITV News coverage. You will also be expected to write scripts and produce graphics when required. Your role will also encompass commissioning interviews and picture sequences.

You will be someone with a good understanding of the ITV News agenda and ITV News’ TV and online audiences and have a proven interest in Business news of all types. You will also be efficient in utilising social and digital media to drive stories and content. A high level of technical ability in editing and production of Graphics will be important.

Creative Director - ITV News

ITV News is looking for a dynamic Creative Director to join our award winning design department.
You are a Senior Designer looking for a new challenge or a Creative Director looking to make your next exciting career move.
You will have experience of creating innovative designs for an agency or in-house creative department. We are looking for someone with an eye on the future who can lead and inspire our journalists and designers.

You will have experience leading a team whether that’s at an in-house design department or creative agency. It’s important that you have experience managing large creative projects from the ground up and are equally comfortable being hands-on, producing graphics under pressure to very tight deadlines.

You will be working closely with the ITV News editorial management team and some of the most respected journalists and correspondents in the world.
